William E. May, Rest in Peace

The CBC mourns the passing of William E. May who died this past Saturday on December 13, 2014. May was the emeritus Michael J. McGivney Professor of Moral Theology at the John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family, where he taught from 1991-2008. Prior to this, he taught at the Catholic University of America for twenty years.

Among the wide-ranging areas of his scholarship, he devoted considerable attention to bioethics. This led him to become a vocal opponent of physician-assisted suicide, assisted reproductive technologies, and human cloning.

His strong belief that all human life was a gift and should be protected in all stages of development makes him a hero to many of us at the CBC—and that’s why in 2007, he was the recipient of our Paul Ramsey Award.

We will continue in the good work that May dedicated his life to promoting. And may he Rest in Peace.
